Massive Tragedy in India: Air India Plane Crashes in Ahmedabad
A devastating aviation disaster has struck India, leaving the entire nation in shock and grief.
An Air India Boeing AI 171 flight, carrying 242 people including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members, departed from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, en route to London. Among the passengers, 162 were Indian nationals, 53 were from the United Kingdom, 7 from Portugal, and 1 from Canada.
Tragically, reports confirm that all on board have lost their lives in the crash.
The aircraft crashed into the hostel of BJ Medical College located in Mohani city. Between 20 to 50 students staying in the hostel have sustained severe injuries. The condition of 60 trainee doctors who were dining in the canteen at the time remains unknown.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters, the Air Force, and disaster rescue units, are working tirelessly in coordinated rescue operations to retrieve those affected by the crash.
In light of the incident, the UK government, concerned for the 53 British nationals on board, has announced an emergency helpline: 020 7008 5000.
"We are ready to fully assist in the rescue operations," stated UK government officials.
As of now, over 133 bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
Adding to the shock, a video has surfaced from a passenger named Akash, who flew on the same plane just two hours prior to the accident. He reported multiple issues with the aircraft, including non-functional air conditioning.
Allegedly, the aircraft had previously been grounded in 2024 due to technical malfunctions. Serious questions are now being raised:
What specific technical faults were detected?
When and how were these faults rectified?
Was the aircraft officially certified as airworthy?
Who authorized and certified the plane's return to service?
There are also unconfirmed reports suggesting that over-fueling may have played a role in the accident.
The Tata Group, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and relevant officials now face intense scrutiny and are expected to provide clear answers to these critical questions.
